Well, it’s been a long time coming, but after nearly 3 years of long-distance love, I packed half my closet (no need for sweaters here), my teaching supplies, and let my heart lead me to this place. I have done as many military significant others before me, and relocated from Wisconsin, leaving the winter far behind me, to O’ahu to be with the love of my life.
I’m still in awe that this is my life. That this is my view. I mean, I honestly have palm trees growing in my front yard! Our yard. We have a place that’s finally ours.
Sometimes I sit here looking at him, so close to me, amazed that he’s all mine and that I’m actually here. Long gone are the days of countdowns, sending care packages for holidays, and planning months in advance for a week together. This change didn’t come easy, but being able to wake up to him has been worth every inconvenience leading up to this point.
To others in long distance relationships, I know it sucks. But the wait is worth it. I promise.
